Burgruine Offenburg
Pöls, Austria, Austria
Burgruine Offenburg is a castle ruin north of Pöls in Styria, Austria, set on a ridge of the Ederkogel above the Pölstal valley. It was likely founded in the early Middle Ages, and most of what remains today dates from the 12th to 15th centuries; a major fire in 1590 left it in ruins, and only parts such as the keep, gate area, and a few wall remains survive. The site is freely accessible and is known more for its scenic, wooded setting than for large ruins. It is a quiet place for a short walk and offers a good sense of medieval history in the landscape around Pöls.
