Finstergrün Castle, located in Ramingstein, Austria, was originally built in 1296-97 by Rudolf von Fohnsdorf as a border fortress between the Archbishopric of Salzburg and the Duchy of Styria.
It served as the seat of the administrator overseeing the silver mines in Ramingstein during the 14th and 15th centuries. The castle sits 1,087 meters above sea level and was first documented under the name Burg Finstergrün in 1629. It was destroyed by a forest fire in 1841, but the ruins remain a notable historic site and symbol of regional medieval defense and mining heritage.
In 1899, the ruins were partly restored into a comfortable house by Count Sándor Szapary, and the castle later became a center for Evangelical Youth activities after World War IIBurg Finstergrün.
