Fortress „Kaliakra“
Bulgaria, Bulgaria
Fortress Kaliakra in northeastern Bulgaria is a dramatic historic cape and former stronghold on the Black Sea coast, near Kavarna and Balgarevo. Its steep cliffs, reaching about 60–70 meters, made it a naturally defensive site, and the area was inhabited since at least the 4th century BC by the Thracians. Over time, it became an important medieval fortress and harbor, especially in the 14th century under Bulgarian rule, and later fell to the Ottomans. Today, visitors come for the ruins, small museum, and wide sea views, since the site combines history, archaeology, and striking coastal scenery.
