Fortress „Krivus“

Bulgaria, Bulgaria

Krivus is a medieval fortress in southern Bulgaria, built in the 10th century above a bend of the Arda River near the village of Bashevo in the Rhodope Mountains. Its steep rocky position made it a strong defensive point, and it controlled an important route into the region’s interior. The fortress was used during the Byzantine and Bulgarian periods and was eventually abandoned after the Ottoman conquest in the late 14th century. Today, visitors come for its ruins, river views, and sense of the area’s long medieval past.
