Fortress „Pernik“
Pernik, Bulgaria, Bulgaria
Fortress Pernik, also known as Krakra Fortress, is a medieval stronghold in the town of Pernik, Bulgaria, built on a rocky plateau that made it a natural defensive site. Its history goes back to an earlier Thracian fortress, and it later became especially important in the 10th and 11th centuries under the Bulgarian noble Krakra, who successfully resisted Byzantine sieges. Today, the ruins include parts of the walls and foundations of buildings and churches, and the site is valued both for its history and for the wide views over the town.
