Verified Ijevan Arboretum

Armenia, Armenia

Ijevan Arboretum, also known as Ijevan Dendropark or Ijevan Subtropical Arboretum, is a hidden gem of botanical beauty located in Ijevan, Tavush Province, Armenia, on the tranquil right bank of the Aghstev River.

Founded in 1962 during Soviet times by researchers Mushegh Aghinyan, Griror Adamyants, and Lyudvig Sayadyan, this 15-hectare arboretum initially served as a research center for studying and preserving native flora but has evolved into a living museum and peaceful public destination.

The park boasts an impressive collection of over 625 to 650 species and varieties of trees, shrubs, and flowers, including plants transported from nearly every continent, with unique features like the world's only beech trail, giant wormugo, wild lemons, wild apple trees, and a special nut alley. Ijevan's subtropical and semi-arid climate allows these diverse international plants to flourish naturally, creating a vibrant landscape of towering oak trees, vibrant magnolias, evergreens, firs, and walnut trees that offers visitors captivating colors and scents throughout the year.

The arboretum features winding pathways, carefully curated gardens, and a small lake that provides serene spots for picnics, birdwatching, and relaxation, while its well-maintained paths make it accessible even for wheelchair users. Open year-round with free entry, the best time to visit is during spring and summer when flowers bloom fully and weather is mild, though each season offers unique charm from autumn's warm hues to winter's snow-covered tranquility.
