The Jardín Botánico de Guayaquil is a five-hectare botanical garden located on a hillside in Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest city, overlooking the Guayas and Daule rivers with magnificent views of the city. Development of the garden began in 1979 and it opened to the public in 1989. The garden showcases around 700 plant species, including both native and exotic plants, with a particular emphasis on plants from Ecuador's tropical coastal zone. Visitors can wander among tall palm trees and explore scientific collections that highlight the region's diverse flora. The garden serves as an environmental conservation organization dedicated to educating people about Ecuador's flora and promoting conservation through education. Located near Cerro Colorado about a half-hour drive north of town, it offers guided tours and programs like "Cine en el Bosque" (Cinema in the Forest) for visitors to discover nature's secrets.
