Jebel Akhdar, meaning “The Green Mountain,” is a spectacular highland region in Oman’s Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, near Nizwa.

Part of the Al Hajar Mountains, it is famous for its cooler climate, dramatic canyons, terraced farms, and mountain villages perched on steep slopes. Unlike much of Oman’s arid landscape, Jebel Akhdar is known for its orchards and gardens, where pomegranates, apricots, walnuts, grapes, and the famous Damask roses are grown using traditional irrigation systems.

During the spring rose season, the area is filled with color and fragrance, and local rose water is produced using centuries-old methods. Visitors come to enjoy scenic viewpoints, hiking trails, traditional villages, and breathtaking mountain scenery. With its refreshing temperatures, rich agricultural heritage, and stunning landscapes, Jebel Akhdar is one of Oman’s most unique and beautiful natural destinations.
