Kovachevsko kale

Bulgaria, Bulgaria

Kovachevsko Kale is a large Roman fortress near Popovo in northeastern Bulgaria, built in the early 4th century to protect a strategic settlement. It had massive walls, 17 towers, and two main gates, showing how important and heavily defended it once was. The site was damaged in later invasions and eventually destroyed in the late 6th century, but its ruins still reveal the scale of the ancient complex. Today, it is an archaeological landmark that gives visitors a clear look at Bulgaria’s Roman past.
