Schallaburg Castle in Austria is a unique blend of architectural styles, combining a Romanesque residential castle with a Gothic chapel and Italian Renaissance influences.

Its central part was built around 1540 by the Losenstein dynasty, who transformed it into a magnificent Renaissance palace featuring a distinctive two-storied arcaded courtyard adorned with about 1,600 terracotta sculptures depicting mythical creatures, gods, and human figures.

The castle's history dates back to the 11th century, initially serving as a fortified residence and later becoming an important center for the Protestant Reformation in Lower Austria under Hans Wilhelm von Losenstein. Schallaburg houses exhibitions focusing on Renaissance history and art, and its beautifully restored gardens and courtyards make it a major cultural and historical attraction.
