Verified Schloss Walpersdorf

Austria, Austria

Schloss Walpersdorf is a fortified Renaissance castle in the village of Walpersdorf in Inzersdorf‑Getzersdorf, Lower Austria, Austria, built in 1571 by Hans Ulrich von Ludmanstorf and completed in 1619 under Helmhard von Jörger and his son Helmhard the Younger.

Around 1577–1619, a gamekeeping estate (Fasanerie) was also established about 800 metres southeast of the main building, reflecting the castle’s role as a manorial seat controlling land and local resources. The castle’s history includes use as a royal‑linked property during the Thirty Years’ War, when it was assigned to support the Loreto Chapel in Vienna, and later as the site of Austria’s first deliberately planned factory building, a silk‑spinning mill established by Georg Ludwig von Sinzendorf in the late 17th century.

From 1859 to 1956 it belonged to the Falkenhayn family, after which Marie Grafenin Falkenhayn gave it to the Missionary Sisters of St Peter Claver; the castle was heavily damaged in World War II but restored, and since 2014 it has been privately owned and used as a cultural and commercial venue.
