Sozopol, located in Burgas Province on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, is one of the country’s oldest towns with a history dating back over 2,600 years when it was founded as the ancient Greek colony of Apollonia Pontica.

The Old Town is an architectural and archaeological reserve, rich in historical layers exhibiting well-preserved houses from the Bulgarian Revival period of the 18th and 19th centuries, characterized by stone foundations, sun-dried brick walls, wooden cladding, and red tiled roofs designed to withstand the harsh sea climate.

The town features narrow cobblestone streets, traditional wooden houses with high fences, and remnants of medieval fortifications including south fortress walls and towers. Sozopol is also notable for its archaeological remains from various periods, including ancient wells, water mains, a grain warehouse, and a chapel dating back to the Byzantine era.
