Valdemars Slot

Valdemars Slot (Valdemar’s Castle) is a grand manor house on the island of Tåsinge near Svendborg in southern Denmark.

It was commissioned by King Christian IV and built between 1639 and 1644 as a residence for his son, Valdemar Christian, making it one of Denmark’s most significant historic estates. Although often called a castle, it was designed as an elegant manor rather than a military fortress. The estate later became associated with the celebrated Danish naval hero Niels Juel, who received the property after his victory over Sweden in the Battle of Køge Bay, and it has remained connected to his descendants for generations.

Set amid forests, coastline, and landscaped grounds, Valdemars Slot is renowned for its beautiful setting and cultural heritage. Today it serves as a historic landmark and cultural venue, combining centuries of royal and family history with exhibitions, contemporary art, and public access to parts of the estate.
