Verified Yellow Palace

Copenhagen, Denmark, Denmark

The Yellow Palace (Det Gule Palæ) is an elegant 18th-century neoclassical mansion located next to Amalienborg Palace in central Copenhagen.

Built between 1759 and 1764, it is considered the first example of Neoclassical architecture in Copenhagen and is one of the city’s important historic buildings. Originally constructed as a private residence, the palace was acquired by the Danish royal family in 1810. It later became the home of Prince Christian of Glücksburg, who went on to become King Christian IX of Denmark.

Several of his children, including Queen Alexandra of the United Kingdom, King George I of Greece, and Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia, were born there. Today, the Yellow Palace remains closely connected to the Danish monarchy. Owned by the Danish state, it houses the Lord Chamberlain’s Office and serves administrative functions for the royal household, while standing as a symbol of Denmark’s royal and architectural heritage.
