Voergaard Castle

Denmark, Denmark

---

Voergaard Castle is a beautifully preserved Renaissance manor house in North Jutland, Denmark, surrounded by one of the country’s widest moats.

Its history dates back to the late 15th century, and the castle took much of its present form in the late 1500s under the noblewoman Ingeborg Skeel, who remains a prominent figure in its legends and folklore. The castle is renowned for its impressive architecture, richly decorated interiors, and valuable art collection.

In the 1950s, owner Ejnar Oberbech-Clausen brought an extensive collection of French art and antiques to Voergaard, turning it into one of Denmark’s most notable historic houses. Today, Voergaard Castle is open to visitors through guided tours that showcase its history, artwork, and famous ghost stories. Its combination of Renaissance elegance, cultural treasures, and centuries-old legends makes it one of Denmark’s most fascinating and picturesque castles.
