Wolf Island, also known as Wenman Island or Isla Wolf, is a tiny, uninhabited volcanic islet in Ecuador's remote northern Galápagos archipelago, covering just 1.3 km² with a maximum height of 253 meters. Named after German geologist Theodor Wolf, it sits 100 miles northwest of Isabela Island on the Wolf-Darwin ridge—the exposed tips of an extinct submarine volcano estimated at 400,000 to 1.6 million years old—with first human landing only in 1964 via helicopter. Renowned among expert divers for the El Derrumbe site featuring hammerhead shark schools, whale sharks, Galápagos sharks, manta rays, turtles, and pelagics, its cliffs host seabirds including the unique vampire finch that drinks blood from boobies, while no tourist landings are permitted to protect its pristine ecosystem.
