Verified Arboretum

Hørsholm, Denmark, Denmark

Hørsholm Arboretum is Denmark's largest collection of trees and shrubs, featuring approximately 2,000 species from around the world in a beautiful park-like setting that looks like either a serene forest or an exotic garden.

Established in 1936 as an extension of the Botanical Garden in Charlottenlund to support forestry and botany education, it remains part of the University of Copenhagen's Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management and is still used for teaching and research projects. The arboretum is open to the public daily from early morning (around 6:30–7:30 AM) until sunset with free admission, and visitors are not allowed to bring dogs.

It is especially popular in May when its extensive collection of wild rhododendron species bloom, and also offers stunning autumn colors, excellent gravel paths for walking, and quiet spots with benches where you can relax or enjoy a picnic. Located about 20 kilometers north of Copenhagen at Kirkegaardsvej 3A, the arboretum combines educational value with tranquility, making it a lovely destination for nature walks, jogging, or simply enjoying unusual trees like the snake tree and pines with blue-purple cones.
