Bernstorff Castle
Gentofte, Denmark, Denmark
Bernstorff Castle (also known as Bernstorff Palace) is a historic neoclassical residence in Gentofte, just north of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Built between 1759 and 1765 for Count Johann Hartwig Ernst von Bernstorff, Denmark’s foreign minister, it is considered one of the earliest and finest examples of Neoclassical architecture in the country. The palace later became a royal residence after being acquired by King Christian VIII, and it served for many years as the summer home of King Christian IX and his family.
The estate is also known for its beautiful park and gardens, which were redesigned in the English landscape style during the 19th century. Today, Bernstorff Castle operates as a hotel and conference center, allowing visitors to experience its elegant historical setting. Its combination of royal heritage, refined architecture, and landscaped grounds makes it one of the most notable historic estates in the Copenhagen area.
