Egelund Castle
Fredensborg, Denmark, Denmark
Egelund Castle (Egelund Slot), situated near Fredensborg in Denmark close to Lake Esrum, was constructed between 1915 and 1917 as a royal residence for Queen Dowager Louise, wife of King Frederik VIII and great-grandmother of Queen Margrethe II.
Designed by architect Carl Harild with gardens by Edvard Glæsel and others, this modern Renaissance and Baroque-inspired structure served as a home for the queen's younger children and later passed through royal heirs like Prince Gustav and Prince Knud before being sold in 1954 to Dansk Arbejdsgiverforening, which now operates it as a congress and training center.
Nestled amid historic Gribskov Forest with views toward Fredensborg Palace, it stands as Denmark's newest castle, blending contemporary design with a rich cultural landscape.
