Jægerspris Castle
Jægerspris, Denmark, Denmark
Jægerspris Castle is one of Denmark’s oldest royal residences, located in the town of Jægerspris on the Hornsherred peninsula in Zealand.
Its history dates back to the 13th century, and for much of its existence it belonged to the Danish Crown, serving as a royal residence and hunting lodge. The castle is especially associated with King Frederik VII and his wife Countess Danner, who made it their private retreat in the 1850s. After the king’s death, Countess Danner preserved parts of the castle as a museum and used her estate to support charitable causes, giving the site an important social as well as royal legacy.
Today, Jægerspris Castle functions as a historic house museum surrounded by a large park and forest. The grounds are famous for their collection of monuments commemorating notable Danish and Norwegian figures, making the castle a significant destination for both history and culture.
