Lilleborg is a medieval castle ruin located in the Almindingen Forest on the Danish island of Bornholm.

Built in the mid-12th century, it served as a royal fortress and strategic stronghold during a period of power struggles between the Danish crown and the church. Its location on a rocky hill surrounded by water made it easier to defend than nearby fortifications. The castle was likely established by King Svend Grathe after much of Bornholm came under church control.

Although relatively small, Lilleborg played an important role in protecting the king’s remaining territory on the island. It was attacked and largely destroyed in 1259 during conflicts between royal and ecclesiastical forces. Today, visitors can see the remains of the fortress walls, tower foundations, and other structures. Surrounded by forest and nature trails, Lilleborg is one of Bornholm’s most atmospheric historical sites, combining medieval history with a scenic natural setting.
