Nordborg Castle in Nordborg, Denmark, is one of the country’s oldest castle sites, with origins dating back to around 1150 when it was founded as Alsborg to help protect the island of Als from coastal attacks.

Over the centuries, it served as a royal property, a ducal residence, and an important regional stronghold, experiencing periods of expansion, war damage, fire, and rebuilding. The castle’s present appearance is largely the result of later restorations and reconstruction work, giving it its distinctive white façade, red roofs, and historic character.

It sits in a scenic setting near Nordborg Lake, surrounded by parkland and water, which adds to its picturesque atmosphere. Today, Nordborg Castle is no longer a royal residence. Its buildings are used as a Danish boarding school, continuing a tradition of educational use that began in the early 20th century. The castle remains an important local landmark and a notable reminder of the region’s medieval and Danish-German border history.
