Ruinen Hald Slot, near Viborg in central Denmark, is the atmospheric ruin of a medieval castle overlooking Hald Sø (Hald Lake).

The visible remains belong to a fortress built around 1528 by Jørgen Friis, the last Catholic bishop of Viborg, during the turbulent years leading up to the Reformation. After the Reformation in 1536, the castle became a royal stronghold and administrative center for a large region of Jutland.

The fortress was eventually abandoned and dismantled in the early 18th century, leaving only ruins and a reconstructed tower that still stands today. Today, Hald Slot is part of the historic area known as De Fem Halder (The Five Halds), where visitors can explore centuries of Danish history while enjoying beautiful scenery, forest trails, and panoramic views across the lake from the tower.
