Verified Arboretum d'Amance

Amance, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France, France

Arboretum d'Amance is a 9-hectare tree collection and botanical garden located near Nancy in Champenoux, Meurthe-et-Moselle, in northeastern France's Lorraine region.

Created in 1900 by Lucien Daubrée, the director general of Waters and Forests, this centenary arboretum is one of the richest collections of forest species in northeastern France, housing nearly 400 tree species from temperate regions around the globe, including Europe, Asia, the Mediterranean, and North America, with over 2,300 individual trees representing approximately 300-318 different species.

The arboretum is divided into four geographic zones—Eurasian western and North African, eastern Eurasian (Siberia, Manchuria, China, Japan), American, and others—and contains notable specimens including giant sequoias. Managed by INRAE's Nancy scientific center, the site serves as a living open-air museum for research, education, and public discovery, and since September 2021 has been permanently open to visitors daily from 8 AM to 8 PM in summer and 8 AM to 6 PM in winter, with free guided visits available for groups and schools by reservation through the CPIE Nancy-Champenoux association.
