Arboretum de La Roche-Guyon
La Roche-Guyon, France, France
The Arboretum de La Roche-Guyon (also called Arboretum de La Roche) is a 12–13 hectare public arboretum located in the heart of the 350-hectare regional forest north of La Roche-Guyon in the Val-d'Oise department of Île-de-France, France.
Managed by the Office national des forêts (ONF) and created in 1990, the arboretum uniquely symbolizes the geography of the Île-de-France region, containing approximately 1,821 trees that reflect the region's various municipalities. Each of the region's départements is represented by a distinctive mass of characteristic trees: maples for Essonne, limes and laurels for Hauts-de-Seine, oak, dogwood, eucalyptus, blackberry, holly, and buckthorn for Seine-et-Marne, beech for Yvelines, and so on, while rivers are cleverly represented by strips of lawn.
The arboretum collects some of the main native tree species from Île-de-France forests and offers visitors a peaceful walking destination with multiple evolving landscapes that change with the seasons. It is open daily and free of charge throughout the entire year for individual visitors, with parking available on site and picnic opportunities permitted if visitors leave no garbage.
