Baugé, now part of the larger commune of Baugé-en-Anjou in western France’s Maine-et-Loire department, is a charming historic town known for its rich heritage and traditional Anjou character.

Recognized as a Petite Cité de Caractère and one of the “Most Beautiful Detours of France,” it has long been considered the historic capital of the Baugeois region. The town is best known for the Château de Baugé, a 15th-century residence associated with King René of Anjou, as well as its remarkable historic center, elegant old mansions, and one of France’s finest preserved apothecaries.

Baugé also played a role in history as the site of the Battle of Baugé in 1421 during the Hundred Years’ War. Today, Baugé attracts visitors with its blend of history, culture, and nature.
