Cactuseraie ESCAÏRE FIGUE
Montolieu, France, France
La Cactuseraie d'Escaïre Figue is a unique botanical garden and cactus nursery located on 803 Route de Carcassonne in Montolieu, Aude department, in the Occitanie region of southern France, on a hillside called "Escaïre Figue" that was formerly planted with vineyards.
Created by collector Nicolas Rouger in the 21st century on a one-hectare preserved site, the garden features approximately 2,000 varieties of cacti and succulent plants, with over 1,700 different plants to discover.
The attraction includes an outdoor garden where Opuntias, agaves, aloes, and other hardy succulents grow in full ground year-round, an indoor garden under greenhouse shelter housing 1,500 varieties of less cold-resistant succulents where visitors learn about the origins, history, and uses of these plants, and a sales greenhouse with free access offering plants and garden design advice.
The cactus walking path features plants mostly planted in beds outdoors throughout the year, and visitors can observe the production process from seeds to adult plants. The site is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 AM to 7 PM, with winter hours requiring contact, admission costs €4 for the garden visit (free for the sales greenhouse).
