The Castle of Colombières is a remarkably preserved fortified castle in Normandy whose origins date back to the 11th century.

Built in a strategic position on the edge of the Bessin marshes, it helped control access to the region and was associated with companions of William the Conqueror who took part in the Norman conquest of England in 1066. Most of the castle seen today was constructed during the 13th and 14th centuries and was strengthened during the Hundred Years’ War.

Its imposing design includes thick walls, four large round towers, a moat, and a drawbridge, making it a classic example of medieval military architecture. Over time, the fortress gradually evolved into a more comfortable residence while retaining its historic character. Today, it remains one of Normandy’s finest medieval castles and is especially valued for its impressive preservation, rich history, and picturesque setting near the D-Day beaches.
