The stronghold dates back to the 13th century and was expanded over later centuries, particularly under the Malbosc‑de‑Miral family, giving it a mix of fortified keeps and more residential Gothic‑style buildings.
It fell into disrepair after the French Revolution but was privately restored starting in the early 1980s and is now listed as a monument historique, welcoming visitors to explore its towers, ramparts, and a 14th‑century chapel with historic frescoes.
