Château Bayard
Pontcharra, France, France
Château Bayard is a 15th-century fortified residence overlooking the Grésivaudan valley from Brâme-Farine hill in Pontcharra, Isère department, southeastern France.
Built starting in 1404 by Pierre Terrail—great-grandfather of the famed Knight Bayard known as the "knight without fear and without reproach"—it features four round towers, three levels of mullioned windows, and panoramic views of the Jura, Vercors, Belledonne, and Chartreuse mountain ranges.
Passed through noble families like d'Avançon and Simiane before falling into ruin, it was classified a historic monument in 1915, restored since 1865, and now houses exhibitions on the Terrail lineage amid its strategic Dauphiné location.
