Verified Château d'Anet

Anet, France, France

Château d’Anet is one of the finest examples of French Renaissance architecture.

Built between 1547 and 1552 by the architect Philibert de l’Orme for Diane de Poitiers, the influential favorite of King Henry II, it was designed as an elegant residence that showcased wealth, power, and artistic innovation. Constructed on the site of an earlier medieval estate, the château became famous for its harmonious architecture, richly decorated entrance, chapel, sculptures, and formal gardens.

Many of its artistic elements celebrate Diane de Poitiers and her association with Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt. Although parts of the original complex were lost after the French Revolution, the remaining buildings have been carefully preserved and restored. Today, Château d’Anet is regarded as a Renaissance masterpiece and an important symbol of the cultural and political influence of Diane de Poitiers in 16th-century France.
