Chateau De Bois Thibault
Lassay-les-Châteaux, France, France
Château de Bois Thibault is a picturesque ruined castle located just outside Lassay-les-Châteaux in the Mayenne region of France.
The site originated as a medieval stronghold, with earlier fortifications dating back to the 11th century, and the current castle was largely rebuilt in the 15th century after the disruptions of the Hundred Years’ War. For nearly 300 years, the château belonged to the influential du Bellay family, which included the famous French poet Joachim du Bellay.
The castle was expanded and modernized with defensive towers, residential quarters, and architectural features that reflected both military and noble traditions. Although it later fell into ruin, the remains still convey the scale and importance of the fortress. Classified as a historic monument since 1925, the site has been preserved through restoration efforts and is now open to visitors, offering a glimpse into the medieval history of the region.
