Château de Châteaudun is a remarkable castle overlooking the Loir River from a rocky promontory in northern France.

Built between the 12th and 16th centuries, it combines medieval military architecture with elegant Gothic and early Renaissance features, making it one of the earliest examples of a residence designed for both defense and comfort. The castle is closely associated with Jean de Dunois, a companion of Joan of Arc, who transformed the fortress into a prestigious residence in the 15th century.

Its most notable features include a massive 12th-century keep, a rare Sainte-Chapelle, richly decorated living quarters, and impressive staircases that illustrate the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Today, Château de Châteaudun is one of the best-preserved historic castles in France.
