Château de Clisson is a medieval castle located in the town of Clisson in western France, overlooking the Sèvre Nantaise River.

The site has been occupied since the 11th century and became one of the most important frontier fortresses of the Duchy of Brittany because of its strategic position between Brittany, Anjou, and Poitou. Most of the castle seen today was built between the 13th and 15th centuries by the powerful Clisson family and later expanded by the Dukes of Brittany.

Its defenses were strengthened over time with towers, fortified walls, artillery positions, and additional enclosures to reflect changing military technology. The castle was damaged during later conflicts, including the French Wars of Religion and the War in the Vendée, leaving much of it in ruins. Restoration efforts in the 20th century helped preserve the site, which is now a major historical landmark known for its impressive medieval architecture and its role in Brittany’s history.
