Château de Courtalain is an elegant French château located in Vald’Yerre, in the Eure-et-Loir department.

Originally built in 1483, it combines medieval and Renaissance architecture, with later 19th-century neo-Gothic additions that give it its distinctive appearance. Over the centuries, the estate passed through several prominent noble families, including the Montmorency and Gontaut-Biron families, whose descendants still maintain a connection to the property.

During World War II, the château served as a refuge for valuable artworks evacuated from the Louvre and other French museums to protect them from the advancing conflict. Surrounded by a large landscaped park, moats, and historic outbuildings, Château de Courtalain is considered one of the notable historic residences of the Loire Valley region. Its blend of architectural styles and rich history make it a remarkable example of France’s aristocratic heritage.
