Château de Culan is a well-preserved medieval fortress perched on a rocky outcrop above the Arnon River in the Berry region of central France.
The current castle was built mainly between the 12th and 15th centuries after earlier fortifications on the site were destroyed during conflicts between the French and English crowns. Over the centuries, the château belonged to several prominent figures, including Admiral Louis de Culant, the Duke of Sully, and the Prince de Condé.
It also welcomed notable visitors such as Joan of Arc, King Louis XI, and the writer George Sand. Today, the castle is renowned for its impressive towers, defensive features, medieval fireplaces, and rare surviving wooden turrets once used to defend the fortress. Restored and carefully preserved, it remains one of the finest examples of a medieval castle in central France.
