Château de la Grange-Bléneau
Courpalay, France
Château de la Grange-Bléneau, located in Courpalay, Seine-et-Marne, France, is a 14th-century castle that was significantly altered in the 17th century. It became famously associated with General Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, who lived there from 1802 until his death in 1834.
The castle passed through several notable families, including the Courtenay, Aubusson-La Feuillade, and d'Aguesseau families, and was inherited by Lafayette through his wife Adrienne. In the 20th century, René de Chambrun, a descendant of Lafayette, purchased and restored the château, discovering a vast collection of family documents dating back to the 15th century.
Today, the château is managed by the Josée and René de Chambrun Foundation, which preserves its historical archives and artifacts, making it a significant cultural and historical monument listed by the French Ministry of Culture.
