The Château de la Turmelière, located near Liré in Orée-d'Anjou, France, traces its origins back to the 13th century with medieval structures and was notably restored in the 15th century.

It was originally a fortified manor positioned strategically for defense with moats and strong walls, situated in a wooded area near the Loire River. The estate is historically linked to the noble families of the region, including the Chabot and Du Bellay families, the latter producing the famous Renaissance poet Joachim du Bellay who was born there.

Over time, the castle transformed from a defensive fortress into a more domestic manor with ornamental gardens and agricultural buildings. During the French Revolution, it suffered damage and partial destruction but was later rebuilt in the 19th century.

Today, the château operates as a welcoming venue for visitors, boasting accommodations and a rich program of educational and cultural activities, while surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes and historical ruins that tell its centuries-long story.
