Château de Luynes is a historic castle overlooking the Loire Valley from a rocky promontory in the town of Luynes, near Tours.

Originally built as a medieval fortress in the 11th century and rebuilt after its destruction in 1096, it occupied a strategic position that allowed it to monitor traffic along the Loire River and its surrounding valley. The castle played an important military role during the Hundred Years’ War and was gradually transformed from a defensive stronghold into a more comfortable noble residence.

Its distinctive features include cylindrical towers, fortified walls, and later architectural additions from the 15th and 17th centuries. Since 1619, the château has belonged to the Albert de Luynes family. Today, it remains a prominent landmark of the Loire Valley and is protected as a historic monument, admired for its blend of medieval fortifications and aristocratic architecture.
