Château de Montjean is a ruined medieval fortress located near a pond in the village of Montjean, in the Mayenne department of western France.

First mentioned in the early 13th century, it grew into a powerful stronghold associated with the Counts of Laval and played an important defensive role in the region. The castle was damaged by fire in the 14th century but was extensively rebuilt in the 15th century by André de Lohéac, a Marshal of France.

During the Hundred Years’ War and the French Wars of Religion, it gained a reputation as a particularly strong fortress and served as a strategic royalist base. Although the castle gradually fell into ruin after the 17th century, its impressive remains, including sections of walls, towers, and moats, still reflect its former importance. Today, the site stands as a striking reminder of the medieval history and military heritage of the Mayenne region.
