Château de Pesselières
Jalognes, France, France
Château de Pesselières is a historic castle in the village of Jalognes in the Cher département of central France, originally built as a fortified stronghold and later reshaped into a more residential pleasure house.
The site has been a seat of the hereditary marshals of Sancerre since the Middle Ages, with parts of the current structure retaining traces of its 15th‑century origins, while later rebuilds in the 17th and 19th centuries added neo‑Renaissance interiors and decorative towers.
The château is now set within a large 22‑hectare romantic park, laid out in the late 18th century in an English‑style landscape crossed by a small river, featuring old trees, a long avenue of centuries‑old box hedges, a kitchen garden, a hedge‑maze, and flowering gardens that are open to visitors on a seasonal basis.
