Château de Vendôme
Vendôme, France, France
The Château de Vendôme is a ruined medieval fortress from the 11th to 17th centuries, perched on a hill overlooking the Loir River in the town of Vendôme, Loir-et-Cher department, France.
Built by the powerful Counts and later Dukes of Bourbon-Vendôme—who rose to the French throne with Henry IV—it features a 12th-century enclosure with visible walls, the prominent Poitiers Tower, and remnants of a collegiate church, Saint-Georges, damaged during the 1562 Huguenot assault and 1793 Revolution.
Now a classified historic monument, its terraces and a 19th-century English-style park with cedars and hydrangeas offer stunning panoramic views of the town and valley, making it a serene spot for visitors.
