Château du Houssoy
Crouy-sur-Ourcq, France, France
The Château du Houssoy in Crouy-sur-Ourcq, France, is a 14th and 15th-century castle that was originally built by Jean de Sépoix to replace an older structure.
Located near the river Ourcq in the Seine-et-Marne department, it was once the residence of noble families including the Cossé-Brissac. The castle originally featured defensive structures such as a square keep, moats, and a first defensive enclosure, characteristic of medieval fortifications. Although much of the castle is now lost, the square keep remains as the main surviving part.
Over time, the castle's military role diminished, and it was converted into a farm. It is recognized as a historic monument by the French Ministry of Culture, with some parts listed in 1932 and others in 1962. The castle's archives have been preserved in the local departmental archives, reflecting its historical significance in the region.
