Verified Conservatoire National des Plantes à Parfum, Médicinales et Aromatiques

Milly-la-Forêt, France, France

The Conservatoire National des Plantes à Parfum, Médicinales et Aromatiques (CNPMAI), also known as the National Conservatory of Perfume, Medicinal, and Aromatic Plants, is a unique nonprofit botanical garden located on Route de Nemours in Milly-la-Forêt, Essonne, in the Île-de-France region of France.

Established in 1987 by the professional society for aromatic and medicinal plants and opened to the public in 2002, this 4-hectare conservatory's mission is to preserve, manage, and conserve genetic resources of perfume, medicinal, aromatic, and industrial plants while contributing to the protection of natural heritage.

The garden houses more than 1,200 to 1,500 species planted in two greenhouses (950 m² and 290 m²), a study garden with 40 plots, thematic gardens, and an arboretum, making it a unique place in France dedicated to utilitarian plants. It serves as an essential resource for producers, gatherers, laboratories, and industries, offering identified and improved plant material, while also functioning as a true reserve safeguarding natural heritage and biodiversity.

The conservatory features an interactive museum space, boutique, and offers guided tours and workshops, and is so significant that Milly-la-Forêt is known as the "capital of plants". It is open from April 5 to October 26, 2025, with varying hours by season, and charges admission fees of €7.50 for adults and €5.50 during low season, while children under 12 and local residents enter free.
