Flamarens is a small rural commune located in the northeast of the Gers department in the Occitanie region of southwestern France.
It lies within the historical and cultural region of Lomagne in Gascony and experiences an altered oceanic climate. The commune is drained by the Métau stream and other small watercourses. Flamarens has a decreasing population that was recorded at 136 residents in 2022, down from a peak of 547 in 1831.
The architectural heritage of Flamarens includes two notable historic monuments: the Château de Flamarens, a castle with origins mentioned as early as 1289 and remodeled through the 14th and 15th centuries before partial destruction by fire in 1943, and the Church of Saint-Saturnin.
The castle is privately owned and open to the public during July and August. The commune is situated between Valence and Fleurance on the old National Road 653 and borders the Tarn-et-Garonne department.
