Gratot Castle is a picturesque medieval castle in Normandy, near the English Channel, that was built between the 13th and 14th centuries and expanded over several centuries.

Originally the seat of the powerful d'Argouges family, it combined defensive features such as towers and moats with the comforts of a noble residence. The castle gradually fell into decline after the 18th century, was abandoned in the early 20th century, and became a ruin. Beginning in 1968, volunteers launched major restoration efforts that saved the site and restored several of its buildings, allowing visitors to appreciate its historic character once again.

Today, Gratot Castle is a protected historic monument known for its romantic atmosphere, medieval architecture, and local legends, especially the tale of the fairy Andaine associated with the castle’s famous Fairy Tower. It serves as a cultural site hosting exhibitions and events while preserving an important part of Normandy’s heritage.
