Verified Jardí botànic Botanical Garden

Eyne, France, France

The Jardí botànic, also known as the Jardin ethnobotanique d'Eyne or Jardin de la Vallée, is an ethnobotanical garden specializing in plants local to the Pyrenees, located at the Maison de la Vallée on Avinguda de Cerdanya in Eyne, Pyrénées-Orientales, France, in the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees Regional Nature Park.

The garden was created on the site of an earlier farm's vegetable garden and now contains a representative collection of trees, flowers, and useful plants from the Pyrenees, arranged in groupings according to the typical altitude at which each plant grows. It is open daily during the warmer months from June to September with an admission fee charged, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about local plants whether edible, poisonous, or medicinal, and to understand humanity's relationship with plants throughout the centuries.

The garden is part of Eyne Valley, a nature reserve classified in 1993 that covers 58% of the town and is nicknamed the "Valley of Flowers" for its remarkable ecological diversity, with over 500 plant species identified including many endemic, rare, and protected species like the Pyrenean lily and glacier buttercup. The valley has been a study laboratory for famous botanists since the 18th century, including Gouan, Bourgat, Razoul, Adanson, and De Candolle, and is also famous for more than sixty species of butterflies.
