Jardin botanique de la Font de Bézombes
Saint-André-de-Sangonis, France, France
The Jardin botanique de la Font de Bézombes is a 2-hectare private botanical garden located in Saint-André-de-Sangonis in the Hérault department of Languedoc-Roussillon, southern France.
Created in the 1990s in a small mini-valley, the garden was developed around an abundant natural spring that allowed for the creation of ponds and supports lush vegetation, with different elevations enabling diverse spaces ranging from densely irrigated areas to dry zones, each with plants adapted to their conditions.
The garden features seven distinct garden styles: tropical, desert, marsh, Chinese, regular/formal, medicinal plants cloître (herb garden), and vegetable garden, plus three biotopes representing Australia, South Africa, and America, showcasing a collection of sometimes little-known plants organized by their geographic origins.
The site is privately owned by Gérard and Monique Simon, is signposted from the Pont de Gignac on the Saint-André-de-Sangonis side, and is typically open only on specific events like the European Heritage Days, Rendez-vous aux jardins, and Jardins ouverts pour le Neurodon, or by appointment with guided tours priced at 4€ per person for groups of 10+ and free self-guided visits at 5€ for individuals, with children accompanied by adults entering free.
