Verified Jardin Botanique de l'Aubrac

Saint-Chély-d'Aubrac, France, France

Jardin Botanique de l'Aubrac is a small botanical garden of about 2,300 square meters located in Saint-Chély-d'Aubrac in the Aveyron department of Occitanie, southern France, nestled at 1,300 meters altitude in the heart of the Aubrac Regional Natural Park.

Created in 1988 by Francis Nouyrigat at the historic site of the Domerie d'Aubrac, an ancient monastic hospital on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, the garden was relocated and redesigned in 2011 at the foot of the Maison de l'Aubrac for better access.

The garden showcases more than 500 plant species, including about 30 protected species, arranged in beds that represent the natural environments of the Aubrac plateau such as rocky areas with a geological slope, pasture zones, forest undergrowth, wet areas, and a bog featuring carnivorous plants and glacial relics.

All plants are labeled with their names, and the garden serves as an educational space for visitors of all ages to discover the wild flora of Aubrac and the interactions between flora, geology, history, and economy. The garden is open to the public from mid-May to late September, with admission costing 3 euros per person (free for children), and it has been part of the Aveyron department's network of sensitive natural spaces since 2024.
