Jean-Marie Pelt Botanical Garden
Villers-lès-Nancy, France, France
The Jean-Marie Pelt Botanical Garden, formerly known as Jardin botanique du Montet, is a major botanical garden and living museum of plants located on the outskirts of Nancy in Villers-lès-Nancy, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France.
Created in 1975 as the successor to Nancy's earliest botanical garden (founded in 1758), this one of the largest botanical gardens in France and Europe spans approximately 25 to 36 hectares and cultivates over 12,000 plant species from every continent, including rare, endangered, unusual, and surprising plants.
The garden features 2,500 m² of tropical greenhouses containing 6,500 species of araceae, orchids, insectivorous plants, and giant water lilies, along with around 15 thematic outdoor collections including a rose garden, arboretum, alpine garden (alpinum), medicinal plants, rhododendrons, and collections of dahlia, iris, bamboo, and conifers.
The site has dual scientific and cultural missions focused on plant heritage conservation, research, and environmental education, offering activities such as botany courses, conferences, guided tours, and exhibitions, and is recognized as a "Remarkable Garden" since the early 2000s.
